Fire and water, light and shadow, war and peace - a hike on the southern section of the Schneifel Trail leads through a region full of contrasts.
Come to rest and reflect, look at the world from different perspectives. Discover a piece of the Eifel that has an eventful past behind it. This is the Schneifel Trail, a hiking trail of peace, inner contemplation and leisure. A look back: To the time many millions of years ago, when the primeval sea still surged here, when the elements ran riot. A view from Calvary into a deep crater, a symbol of destruction, suffering and hardship, because it was made by man. Today: the birds chirp in the forest and the flowers along the path stretch their heads towards the sky. The Nims meanders comfortably through the valley, the enchanted and bizarre rocks in Schönecker Schweiz show the way, the old beech forests protect you from the sun and rain with their canopy of leaves and from the Katzenberg the view sweeps over a vast landscape.
Many generations have left their mark: The St. Salvator Basilica in Prüm tells of a glorious past in the Carolingian era, while in the artists' settlement of Weißenseifen, a spiritual and creative spirit wafts around the works of contemporary artists.
In the middle of the town of Prüm you will find the St. Salvator Basilica, the landmark of Prüm. A visit to the baroque parish church is worthwhile.
The castle represents the landmark of our place. A walk there is always worthwhile. From here you can enjoy an impressive view of Schönecken and its surroundings.
Hike from Kopp to Gerolstein on the Schneifel-Pfad and Eifelsteig (approx. 17 km).
Alternatively, you can shorten the route to Birresborn.
Overnight stay in Gerolstein or Birresborn
24 million glittering mosaic stones inspire thousands of church visitors every year. To protect the valuable mosaics, the church can only be visited in conjunction with a guided tour.
The Helenenquelle on the Kyll Cycle Path near Gerolstein Town Hall is a popular resting place for cyclists and hikers. The fresh mineral water comes from a depth of approx. 90 m and can be drunk free of charge from April-October from the brass tap. Here it is worth taking a break and the park is ideal for a small picnic in nature.
