Fire and water, light and shadow, war and peace—a hike along the southern section of the Schneifel Trail takes you through a region full of contrasts.

Find peace and reflect, view the world from different perspectives. Discover a corner of the Eifel with a turbulent past. That is the Schneifel Trail. A hiking trail of peace, inner reflection, and leisure. A look back: to a time many millions of years ago, when the primordial sea still surged here, when the elements raged. A view from Kalvarienberg into a deep crater—a symbol of destruction, suffering, and hardship, for it is man-made. Today: Birds chirp in the forest, and flowers along the trail stretch their heads toward the sky. The Nims River meanders peacefully through the valley; in “Schönecker Schweiz,” the enchanted and bizarre rock formations mark the way, the ancient beech forests shield hikers from sun and rain with their canopy, and from Katzenberg, the view sweeps across a vast landscape.
Many generations have left their mark: The St. Salvator Basilica in Prüm tells of a magnificent past during the Carolingian era. In the Weißenseifen artists’ colony, a spiritual and creative spirit permeates the works of contemporary artists.

    2. Day 2: Schönecken – Prüm

      • Bus ride to Schönecken
      • Hike along the Schneifel Trail to Prüm | approx. 12 km

    3. Day 3: Schönecken – Kopp

      • Hike along the Schneifel Trail to Kopp | approx. 19 km
      • Overnight stay in Kopp

      1. Day 4: Kopp – Gerolstein

        • Hike from Kopp to Gerolstein along the Schneifel Trail and the Eifelsteig (approx. 17 km).

          24 million glittering mosaic stones inspire thousands of church visitors every year. To protect the valuable mosaics, the church can only be visited in conjunction with a guided tour.

          The Helenenquelle on the Kyll Cycle Path near Gerolstein Town Hall is a popular resting place for cyclists and hikers. The fresh mineral water comes from a depth of approx. 90 m and can be drunk free of charge from April-October from the brass tap. Here it is worth taking a break and the park is ideal for a small picnic in nature.

      2. Day 5: Departure

        • Return trip to Prüm is possible via public transportation
