Welcome to the Alte Burg! Pure village life: Our castle (built in 1509) is located in the middle of the picturesque Schönecker Schweiz in the old and quiet village center of Hersdorf.Our comfortably furnished vacation apartment in the former barn is the ideal starting point for hikes and explorations of the Eifel - from the volcanic Eifel with the maars to the High Fens and Luxembourg. Guests with children are just as welcome as guests with pets. Just come and relax and unwind. We look forward to seeing you! The accommodation The vacation apartment is built into a former barn. It has a large living room with adjoining kitchen area, a fireplace, a dining area and a living area with sofa (can be converted into a sofa bed). A wooden staircase leads to the gallery with the sleeping area. From the entrance, however, you first enter the hallway with checkroom and the modern bathroom with walk-in shower. Access for guests In front of the vacation apartment is a loggia with seating and a partially covered barbecue area, which our guests are welcome to use by prior arrangement. Our village Hersdorf is a tiny village with about 400 inhabitants. Our castle is in a very quiet location. There are no shops in the village, no bakery and unfortunately no village pub. So bring something with you for breakfast the morning after your arrival. But there is fresh milk straight from the farmer. We will be happy to put a bottle of milk in the fridge for the first morning if you order in advance.As in many places in the Eifel, the mobile phone network is not ideal. So you won't have reception everywhere in the apartment.The nearest small supermarket, bakery, pubs, restaurants etc. can be found in Schönecken, about 4 km away.More restaurants, museums and a good ice cream parlor can be found in Prüm, about 8 km as the crow flies from Hersdorf.

For the guest who is looking for something special! The historic castle complex is located 8 km from Wittlich in the municipality of Bruch in the idyllic Salmtal valley. We offer 4 exclusive double rooms with shower/WC and breakfast in the manor house. For hiking groups, we are happy to organise an evening meal on request and after prior registration.

Stay overnight in the Eagle and Wolf Park! Our shepherd's carts offer holidaymakers, hikers and cyclists a very special way to stay overnight. You will feel completely connected to nature in the cozy and romantic ambience of our Shepherd's Cart Park. With a view of the Kasselburg, you spend the night like the shepherds used to do.  Park gastronomy Our team looks forward to seeing you and your family in our restaurant-café “Adlerhorst” - because we certainly have the right snacks and small dishes on offer for every visitor! The outdoor beer garden also invites you to linger. Especially if the children “first” want to slide or climb because of the adjacent playground. If you stay overnight in our shepherd's cart, you will receive 2x entry to the park during regular opening hours (including arrival and departure days). If you stay for several days, entry to the park is included on all days!
