Experience the Stars and the Night

Where the Stars Become Visible Again

As twilight slowly settles over the rolling hills of the Eifel and the last light of day disappears behind forests, volcanic craters, and vast landscapes, a quiet spectacle begins.
Darkness slowly descends upon the landscape. And then, almost imperceptibly, they appear: first a few stars, then more and more, until a sparkling firmament stretches out above you, seeming almost unreal.

The Eifel is one of the few regions in Germany where the night is still truly dark in many places. In fall and winter, the nights are particularly clear and longer—perfect for gazing at the starry sky.  In the Eifel National Park, the night is so dark that it has even been recognized as a “Star Park.” The Star Park is part of the “Star Landscape,” which encompasses the national park and the surrounding countryside. Places like the “SternenBlicke” (Star Views), historic observatories, or guided stargazing tours not only make the cosmos visible to you but also help you understand it—while at the same time opening up new perspectives on the landscape, history, and humanity’s role within it.

Perhaps you’ll decide to consciously let the night stretch on a little longer—by spending the night under the open sky, in a tree tent, or at one of the camping sites. Or maybe you’ll just sit there for a moment longer and let your gaze and thoughts wander.

Set out and discover the night in the Eifel—find your own personal view of the stars, book your nighttime experience, and immerse yourself in one of Germany’s truly dark landscapes.

Stargazing in the northern Eifel region

As twilight falls and the last light disappears behind the hills of the Northern Eifel, another world begins. Then the stars appear with a clarity long lost elsewhere. The “SternenBlicke" (Star Views) take you to designated dark sky areas—far away from light pollution, close to the Milky Way and shooting stars. A quiet, awe-inspiring experience under the open sky.
And as you gaze up into the cosmos, you feel the element of air in its purest form.
