Eifel National Park
Forest. Water. Wilderness.
North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and East Belgium are connected in the north of the Eifel by the transnational Hohes Venn Eifel Nature Park. Deep blue lakes and rivers, babbling brooks and wide reservoirs, wooded mountain ranges - you will be amazed at how varied this landscape is.
The Eifel National Park lies right in the middle of the Hohes Venn Eifel Nature Park. Covering around 110 square kilometers, this large protected area offers animals such as wildcats and black storks a virtually undisturbed habitat. In early summer, golden yellow broom flowers color entire hillsides - as if someone had poured light onto the landscape.
Unexpected discoveries: From orchids to kites
In the south of the national park, you may even be lucky enough to discover wild orchids - such as the spotted orchid. But the Eifel offers more than just botanical variety: forests, stream valleys, plateaus, old wooded pastures - the landscape looks like a carefully composed natural backdrop. And as you wander through nature, kites circle above you.
An experience for all the senses
The Eifel National Park appeals to all the senses: you look out from vantage points such as the Hirschley, 180 meters above the Rur reservoir. You hear the tapping of woodpeckers, smell woodruff, feel soft moss and the rough bark of old tree trunks under your fingers.
"Why don't you lie down on one of our sensory loungers?" the ranger suggests. Situated a little out of the way, they invite you to pause for a moment. Lie down and switch off. Take in and enjoy. In the Eifel National Park.
Ranger tours - first-hand knowledge of nature
If you take part in a ranger tour, you will learn exciting things first-hand. Stories about the black stork, the eagle owl, the tawny owl or the common raven - and about the beaver building its castles. The wind whispers softly through the treetops.
National Park Center
What is wilderness - and what does it mean in the Eifel National Park? The adventure exhibition "Wildnis(t)räume" at the Eifel National Park Center provides surprising, touching and interesting answers. It guides you through the fascinating habitats of the only national park in North Rhine-Westphalia, makes ecological relationships understandable and opens up a playful approach to nature. Interactive stations, illustrative experiments and a barrier-free design throughout make the exhibition an experience for everyone.
Wilder Kermeter nature experience area
In the Wilder Kermeter nature experience area, a finely gravelled, barrier-free hiking trail leads you through one of the most impressive beech forests in the Eifel - past windswept Kyrill areas, on wooden footbridges, the "Wilder Weg (Wild Way)" leads you through unspoiled nature, where the "primeval forest of tomorrow" is already rustling quietly today. Observing nature, slowing down and education come together here over 5.4 kilometers to create an experience for everyone.
StarLandscape Eifel
The Eifel at night has something appealingly mystical and wildly romantic about it. And it has something very rare in Europe: it is dark. Really dark. So free of light sources on the ground that it is a place where you can experience the starry sky in incredible splendor even without telescopes.
