Directions:

From the village square, first follow Ochtendunger Straße and the road "In den acht Morgen" to the K63. The path leads you to an area where quarried volcanic rock is stored, highlighting the industrial links with the region's volcanic past. Before the underpass, the path bends and leads you around the storage area back to the road. Follow the path down to the left along the K63 towards Plaidt. After crossing the L123, a footpath takes you onto Rauscher Straße, which leads past the RWE building directly to the Volcano Park Information Center. Take a short break there and enjoy a fascinating explanation of the volcanic activity around Lake Laach. Back past the RWE building, the path leads towards the "Pellenzbad" outdoor pool across a meadow at the end of which a small path leads to Saffig.The path joins Von-der-Leyen-Straße and leads via Andernacher Straße into the street "Im Wiesengrund". Through an attractive residential area, you are led around to the right via Neuwieder Straße back to the village square.

Baroque church of St. CäciliaThe baroque church in Saffig is a special architectural gem. The famous baroque master builder Balthasar Neumann (1687-1753) was commissioned as architect. The client was the noble family of the Counts von der Leyen, who lived in Saffig Castle at the time.
