Circular route, start/finish: Birgel community centre, Wiesbaumer Straße, length: 9.3 km, duration: 2 hours 30 minutes
Varied circular tour around Birgel with wonderful far-reaching views. This tour offers various sports stations along the way and lots of information about native trees.
In the Hirschsattel nature and adventure hiking area, you can choose from a total of three tours of different lengths. On the middle tour (green) over 9.3 km you hike the heights around Birgel. At almost every bend you have a different view of our beautiful Eifel landscape. For the athletic hiker, there are various opportunities to test one's physical fitness, while the nature lover can brush up on his knowledge of the native trees.
The starting point of this hike is the village of Birgel at the community centre in Wiesbaumer Straße. From here, the trail leads through the Hirschbergsattel nature and adventure area. The trail is well signposted with the lettering LB1 on a white square and is relatively easy to hike. Past some fitness stations, you reach the "Bielenholf Alm" about halfway through the hike. While the little hikers enjoy the petting zoo here, the grown-ups can help themselves to the rich refrigerated counter and fridges. At weekends, there are even home-cooked meals including service.
The trail continues across fields, forests and meadows past beautiful wildflower beds. In addition, you will repeatedly reach places with magnificent views from where you can not only see but also enjoy the landscape of the Volcanic Eifel. And again and again, trees and shrubs are described in detail on information boards, giving every hiker an insight into the local palm world. At a crossroads, you can decide whether to continue along the green path, which then leaves the forest again after a short while. After a good two and a half hours, you will return to the starting point in Birgel. If you decide to take the longer red trail, you will still be walking through the Lissendorf forest for most of the time.
