Beschreibung
Hiking in the footsteps of St. Jodokus: The Jodokus Trail starts and ends in Langenfeld at the neo-Gothic parish church "St. Quirinus", which is also popularly known as the "Eifel Cathedral" due to its importance as a pilgrimage church and its considerable size. On the route, which is around 11 kilometers long and marked with a "J", hikers reach the pilgrimage chapel of St. Jost along an old pilgrimage path.
The Jodokusweg trail, which is around 11 kilometers long and marked with a "J", starts and ends in Langenfeld at the neo-Gothic "St. Quirinus" parish church. Hikers reach the pilgrimage chapel of St. Jost via an old pilgrims' path.
The path leads along the little stream Nitz to the valley of the Achter Bach and to the "Black Madonna", a beautiful statue of a saint in a rock niche, at the foot of which you can rest and linger.
Another stop is the Jodokusbrunnen fountain with delicious drinking water, before you finally reach the pilgrimage chapel of St. Jost. A visit to the late Gothic pilgrimage chapel from the 15th century is a real must. The baroque altar from the 17th century is striking and particularly characteristic.
The Jodokusweg trail continues through the Nitztal valley to the Jodokus column and then via the villages of Welschenbach, Niederwelschenbach and Acht (where the restored Hubertus chapel is well worth a visit) through the forest back to Langenfeld.
The walk takes around 3 hours.
Please download the gpx track and the map of the route in advance, as the signposting may be patchy in some areas.
To navigate using the gpx track, we recommend using the Rhineland-Palatinate tour planner app.
After downloading the app and clicking on the gpx track on this page, the correct route will automatically open in the app. By tapping on the three dots at the top right of the app display and confirming by clicking on the "Save offline" tab, you can navigate the route even without network reception.
Only stay on the marked paths.
Especially in the fall, be aware that leaves lying on the ground can hide bumps, roots, etc. on the path.
