Spuren des Krieges – zwischen Alltag und Gedenken
Stolberg
The Second World War is long over, but its traces are still visible around Süssendell.
What you have seen on this round are very different places: a water bunker as part of the supply, Westwall concrete buildings, terrain traces – and the war cemetery as a commemorative site. Together they show that war was not only "then," but continues to resonate as a memory in the landscape.
Some relics are protected and are intentionally preserved, while others remain unmarked and gradually fall into oblivion. In between lie many decisions about what is preserved, what is overgrown – and what is hardly perceived anymore.
Those who are observant around Süssendell can see and feel how the past and present coexist side by side in the landscape.
