Der Weberplatz – Symbol des Handwerks
Roetgen
Between the church and the town hall, the stone weaver holds his shuttle in his hand, his gaze lowered. The figure shows the Roetgen weaver - a symbol of a traditional craft that has been at home here for generations.
The statue by Hermann Pier is a reminder of a time when looms shaped everyday life and cloth production shaped work, life and prosperity for over two centuries. It stands for the skill, diligence and pride of the weaving families. At the same time, it makes the economic change visible. A change that began when the workshops fell silent and Roetgen had to find new paths.
Today, the Weberplatz is once again the focal point of the village. The route starts from here, and the monument is a reminder of an era in which manual labor and community were closely interwoven.
