Schloss Burgau

Düren

The main castle at Burgau Castle looks back on an eventful history. Built in the early 14th century by the Counts of Heinsberg and granted as a fief to Wilhelm von Burgau, this romantic moated castle now shines in new splendor. Destroyed in 1944, left in ruins until 1975, and restored since 1998, Burgau Castle is once again the jewel of the city of Düren. The hallmark of Burgau Castle is the bay window built in 1551 (funded by the proceeds of a fortunate marriage), which defines the appearance of the castle’s south tower. The outer bailey, built during the French period, is now home to the Niederau local association, among other things, and serves as a festival and concert hall for the people of Düren.
