Meerfeld
High above the Eifel’s largest maar crater, the Meerfelder Maar, you can see a lookout tower—the Landesblick—from a great distance. From there, you look out over at least 30,000 years of natural history, into a very large and expansive maar crater. The maar itself occupies only about half of the space within the maar crater. Nestled against the steep southern slopes of the other half is the idyllic little village of Meerfeld—not just worth a visit for the view, but also for its restaurants, whose excellent cuisine will delight your palate.
Discover the “Landesblick” observation deck, which sits high up on the crater rim and offers an unforgettable view of the surrounding countryside and the Meerfeld maar. The effort of the climb to 515 meters above sea level is well worth it, as the panoramic views in all directions are fantastic. Benches below the tower are perfect for a picnic during a hike.
