On Mayen´s Katzenberg there was the lagerst Roman hill fort of Eifel and Hunsrück. It was built about 300 A.D., a troubled time when the Roman Limes had been destroyed.To get a realistic impression, about 70m of a walk along the battlements has been rebuilt. On the top of the hill a shelter has been erected in order to protect the excavation site of the original Roman observatory.
Heyerberg with chapel The Heyer chapel near Borler is one of the cultural monuments in our region worthy of protection. The name of the chapel goes back to the Lords of Heyer.
A document from 1112 confirms that Heinrich II, Count of Laach and Count Palatine of the Rhine Franconia, gave the village of Kruft to the Benedictine monastery Maria Laach in 1093.
