During a balloon flight, you can experience the tranquillity and beauty of the Northern Eifel from a different perspective - and become very calm yourself. At an overflight altitude of around 500 to 1000 meters, you can still see quite a lot on the ground: for example, the tops of the trees, rabbits in the fields or the hustle and bustle in the villages. A balloon flight is a journey into another world at any time of year. Between spring and fall, you can only fly in the morning or evening in good weather conditions due to the thermals. In winter, on the other hand, balloons are launched during the day when the weather is clear, so that a flight over snow-covered countryside is also possible. After landing, the traditional balloon baptism takes place and the experience can end with a glass of sparkling wine.
For us it goes without saying that:
When to fly ?
Ballooning is possible at any time of year, weather permitting. From spring to fall, you can only fly in the morning shortly after sunrise or a few hours before sunset because of the thermals. In winter, when there is snow and frost, it is also possible to fly during the day.
What to wear ?
As the balloon travels with the wind, there is no wind. This means that the temperature feels higher than on the ground. It is best to wear casual clothing appropriate to the season with sturdy, ankle-high shoes.
Who can go on the boat?
Children aged 12 and over can go on the boat and must be at least 1.30 meters tall so that they can see over the edge of the basket. There is no maximum age. However, the fitness of the passengers is decisive and the maximum weight is 105 kg. If you are unsure, contact the pilot or ask your family doctor directly. Cardiovascular diseases and diseases of the bone apparatus or recently operated body parts are critical. Pregnant women must not be treated.
How long does it take ?
We are in the air for around 60 to 90 minutes, but the entire event lasts four to five hours and includes a variety of aspects - the joint assembly and disassembly of the balloon, checking the weather conditions and the ritual of the balloonist's baptism.
Where to launch ?
The choice of launch sites depends on the wind direction and wind speed. It is also possible to launch outside the Eifel National Park adventure region.
Fear of heights or flying ?
Even if you are not free from giddiness or are even afraid of heights, you don't have to miss out on this adventure, because up there you have no connection with the earth's rotation. What's more, the basket doesn't sway, so you feel as if you're standing on the floor - there's no vertigo.
