Kornelimünster with its churches worth seeing and old town houses, the former monastery and today's museum offers an excellent ambience for strolling. Important art treasures, the "Historical Fair" in June, the Korneli Octave in September and the Christmas market are reasons to visit the pilgrimage site. The pubs in the romantic alleyways attract walkers and stopovers. Kornelimünster is the starting point of the Eifelsteig long-distance hiking trail, which runs 313 km in 15 stages through the Eifel to Trier.

UNESCO World Heritage Site Igeler Säule. The column was built in the first half of the 3rd century AD by a wealthy cloth merchant family. In November 1986, the 23 m high column was declared a World Cultural Heritage.

The youngest of this group of three maar lakes is the Holzmaar. It is the mostly researched maar lake in the Eifel.

On Mayen´s Katzenberg there was the lagerst Roman hill fort of Eifel and Hunsrück. It was built about 300 A.D., a troubled time when the Roman Limes had been destroyed.To get a realistic impression, about 70m of a walk along the battlements has been rebuilt. On the top of the hill a shelter has been erected in order to protect the excavation site of the original Roman observatory.

The Monschau Castle presumably originated at the beginning of the 13th century. In the middle of the 14th century, the complex was extended and enclosed by a mighty circular wall and embattlements. This nearly impregnable fortress of the powerful Jülich Counts was besieged with heavy artillery by Emperor Charles V in 1543 and was ultimately overtaken; the town was looted. The castle was only repaired to extend the fortifications of the lower castle.
