The Maar-cross above the Schalkenmehren Maar is worth the climb. The view at 535 metres above sea level over the region is incredible and at the same time very decelerating.

Above the Schalkenmehren Maar, a summit cross thorns at 534.5 metres above sea level. Like everything else, this cross has a history and is no longer in its original place.

Nevertheless, its inscription "Maarkreuz seist du genannt, uns zum Heil und diesem Land. Emergency year 1932" reminds us of severe thunderstorms and the resulting damage and crop failures. Many families suffered great hardship. It was intended to serve as a protective cross for the future, even after it was moved to its present location.
