Ich bin der Galmeizwerg

Hello, I am the Galmeizwerg. I look small and inconspicuous, but my story goes deep into the ground.

In the past, people used to look for calamine here - an ore they needed for brass. Galmei hides well. It is hidden in the rock and often looks quite inconspicuous. Anyone who wanted to find the ore therefore had to look very closely at the ground and examine it: Where is the soil particularly light? Where is it dry and stony? And where do only very special plants grow?

Today, galmei is no longer mined. But sometimes the path still shows how closely you had to look to discover it.

Detective's eye: Look closely at the ground along the path. Can you spot places that are particularly light, dry or stony? These are places where there used to be galmei in the ground. Show them to your family and think together about what people might have used galmei for in the past. And please leave the stones lying around so that others can also enjoy them and become naturalists.
