Eifeler Glockengießerei Brockscheid
Brockscheid
In times of war, the prestige of the families increased, because the craftsmen served the rulers as cannon founders.
Today, the Eifel bell foundry only works for peaceful purposes. Its repertoire includes large bronze bells as well as art castings made to customer specifications.
The production of a bell, no matter how large, is still exclusively manual work. The first step is to create a mould from bricks, clay and horse manure, which is then moulded on using a template. The first step in the casting process is the burn-out; temperatures of over 600°C prevail in the mould for eight hours. Next comes the casting, a procedure in which over 1100°C hot metal flows into the mould through masonry channels....
This is an impressive craft, the individual steps of which can be admired at any time in the bell foundry. A visit to Brockscheid is an exciting experience, especially for families with children.
