Monschau
At 658 meters above sea level, the Steling is the highest elevation in the Aachen city region. The excellent view was the reason why there was once even a fire watch tower on the Steling.
The view to the east stretches far across the Eifel National Park. The forest and open land areas of the former Vogelsang military training area, which is accessible to visitors as part of the Eifel National Park, are clearly visible. Behind it lies the wooded Kermeter mountain range, another "heart" of the national park.
In the foreground, numerous hedgerows criss-cross the "Monschau Heckenland". In the past, they were used to enclose properties and have protected fields and grazing livestock from the strong westerly winds since time immemorial.
The Steling is also the highest point on the Eifelsteig long-distance hiking trail, stage 2.
Simply park your car in Monschau-Mützenich at the "Im Brand" hiking parking lot. From there, follow the signs to "Steling".
