Kloster Mariawald

Heimbach

Above the town of Heimbach, in the heart of the Eifel National Park, lies Mariawald Abbey at an altitude of 417 meters. As the only male Trappist monastery in Germany, Mariawald has been a place of prayer and pilgrimage for centuries.
The monks' daily routine is characterized by prayers, readings and work. The monks invite all visitors to take part in the times of prayer and the daily Holy Mass. The abbey church also invites visitors to linger and pray in silence outside of prayer times. Guests can retreat into the silence of the monastery for a few days by prior arrangement. A separate guest house is available for this purpose.

Today, the monks and staff of Mariawald run a monastery restaurant with a sun terrace, a book and art shop, a liqueur factory and the monastery store. The typical Mariawald monastery products such as pea soup, liqueurs, truffle pralines, pastries, mustard and skin care creams are known throughout the region. In addition, beef from species-appropriate animal husbandry, seasonal game from the surrounding forests and products from other Trappist monasteries such as Trappist beer and cheese from Belgium are on offer.
In the monastery bookshop, visitors will find a wide range of religious literature, devotional items, art cards and lots of interesting facts about the national park and the Eifel. Access to the church, restaurant, monastery store and bookshop is barrier-free. The "Die Arche" playground is popular with children.

There are plenty of parking spaces available for cars and buses.
