The Eifelsteig partner trail Rur-Olef-Route (58 km) gives an insight into the traces nature leaves behind and how it develops undisturbed, as part of the trail leads through the Eifel National Park. The hike passes rustic rocky passages, the Eifel lake landscape and a ridge from which magnificent open spaces spread out and offer impressive views.

Attractions such as Schleiden Castle Church and the Hellenthal wildlife reserve with its bird of prey station enrich the route. From Rurberg, you can easily and comfortably return to Gemünd via the Eifelsteig trail. The hike is also possible with dogs on request.

The Eifelsteig hiking bus will also be in operation in 2025, providing a comfortable and environmentally friendly connection to the Eifelsteig & its partner trails.

Tip: To shorten the route from Rurberg to Einruhr, you can take a trip on the Rursee boat .

The Urft Dam is the oldest valley dam in the Eifel and is located in the middle of the Eifel National Park. At the time, the dam was planned as the largest structure in Europe. Construction of the 266 m long wall made of quarry stones began in 1899 - in May 1905 the dam was filled with water for the first time. In addition to flood protection and energy generation, the aim of the hydraulic engineering measure was to supply the region with drinking water. With a length of 12 km, a width of up to 1 km and a maximum depth of 52 m, Lake Urft has a capacity of 45.5 million cubic metres. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)
