Challenge yourself without overdoing it, conquer the climbs and enjoy the former railroad trails all the more, take in the diverse landscapes of the Eifel, and let the wind blow through your hair—the loop tour along the Enz, Nims, and Prüm bike trails is perfect for taking a short break from everyday life.
The lengths of the stages allow plenty of room to make stops. For example, on the shores of the Bitburg Reservoir in Biersdorf am See, where pedal boaters and paddlers on the water create the perfect “picnic atmosphere.” In Holsthum, hop plants wind their way up meter-high wooden and wire trellises—what an impressive sight!
Charming Eifel villages line the route toward the Enz River; the expansive Bitburger Gutland offers unobstructed views; and in Neuerburg, there’s time for a coffee break.
It’s only a few kilometers from Holsthum to Bitburg. That leaves plenty of time to experience the fascinating world of beer up close at the Bitburger Erlebniswelt or to learn more about the town’s history on a guided tour.

Day 2: Bitburg – Prüm | approx. 49 km

The Prüm, the second-longest river in the Eifel after the Kyll, runs alongside this stage all the way to its destination, Prüm.
The Bitburg Reservoir, with its water fountain and picturesque setting in the Prüm Valley, invites you to take a short break on a sun terrace right at the start of the stage. The Devonium Waxweiler Museum tells the fascinating story of evolution. It’s hard to believe that during the Devonian Period, Waxweiler was located in a river delta comparable to today’s Orinoco Delta in Venezuela.

Deeply incised river valleys and mountain ranges reaching up to 570 m characterize the “rugged” Islek, a cross-border region in the tri-border area of Germany, Luxembourg, and Belgium. Since the route runs almost exclusively along former railroad tracks, you can glide quite leisurely on your bike from the Islek through the Südeifel Nature Park and on into the “mild” Bitburger Gutland with its sun-drenched, colorful orchard meadows.
Near Holsthum lies Rhineland-Palatinate’s only hop-growing region. Hop farmer Andreas Dick ensures that the Siegel hops grown there are used exclusively for Bitburger’s premium beers.

HolsthumOpen todayThe Prümtal valley near Holsthum is home to the only hop-growing region in Rhineland-Palatinate. This is where the high-quality Siegel hops grow, which, along with Hallertau hops, are an essential component of Bitburger beer. Hop farmer and beer sommelier Andreas Dick offers farm tours, beer tastings and brewing courses, and the hop barn can be hired for parties and celebrations.
Day 4: Holsthum – Bitburg | approx. 31 km

Between Holsthum and Irrel, you can get up close to the hops blooming along the Prüm Bike Trail from late May through mid-September. Here, you ride right past hop poles that stand up to 8 m tall.
In the lower reaches of the Prüm, the river has carved deeply into the sandstone, creating a gorge-like valley. The famous Teufelsschlucht (Devil’s Gorge), located west of the Prüm, was formed when massive rockfalls occurred during the last Ice Age.
At your destination, the Bitburger Erlebniswelt lets you see, hear, feel, smell, and taste what makes the beer of the same name so special. The Bitburger Brewery, founded in 1817 in the Southern Eifel, is one of Germany’s most prominent premium breweries.
