The youth hostel is one of the certified national park hosts and is thus the ideal base for numerous outdoor activities. School classes not only learn a lot about the Eifel National Park and its animal and plant life in Gemünd Vogelsang, but they also benefit from the proximity to the "International Place Vogelsang". The 100-hectare site of the former NS-Ordensburg Vogelsang is now a modern extracurricular learning and cultural event venue. Program offerings around the themes of tolerance, respect, and prevention are supplemented by historically political programs and components.
