Description

In the realm of galmei plants

The "Schlangenberg: In the realm of galmei plants" circular tour combines nature, geology and history. Over a distance of almost 8 kilometers, it leads through the Schlangenberg nature reserve - a protected area of European importance with flora that has adapted to the most extreme conditions.

Plants grow here that can only be found in a few places in the world - above all the bright yellow galmei violet. At the same time, you will come across evidence of the centuries-old ore mining and brass industry that shaped the Stolberg region.

The route is easy to walk, leads along forest and field paths and is ideal for a half-day tour. At several stations, you will learn more about nature, geology and the fascinating history of this special route.

Highlights of the route

  • Rare galmei flora with endemic species (seasonal)
  • Historical traces of galmei mining
  • Schlangenberg nature reserve (part of Natura 2000)
