Description

The Maare & Thermen Route offers breathtaking views of the Ueßbach Valley and the Vulkaneifel landscape. Listen to the babbling of the streams and enjoy the peace and quiet of the forest.

Before you set out…

From time to time, sections of the trail may need to be rerouted or closed temporarily. Just check www.gesundland-vulkaneifel.de/info/wege-info/.

From Lutzerath, the trail leads through Niederwald, along and across the Ueßbach. The trail climbs up to the famous “Siebenbachblick” viewpoint. It then follows the Winkelbach, whose floodplains—with their countless variety of wildflowers and herbs—are a feast for the eyes and the palate. The region’s geological and cultural-historical heritage can be marveled at the former Falkenlay volcano with its Stone Age caves. After 17 km, you’ll reach the stage destination of Bad Bertrich. There, the spa gardens and the Römerkessel await you, as well as Germany’s only Glauber’s salt thermal spa. At Strotzbüsch, the 7-Maare Route connects to the Eifelsteig; in Ulmen, the route joins the Hochkelberg Panoramaweg.

Highlights along the way:

  • Siebenbach View
  • Falkenlay, a former volcano
  • Maischquelle (chilled drinks along the trail)
  • Bad Bertrich with its spa park, Römerkessel, and Vulkaneifel Therme
