An idyllic forest and meadow circular trail, which not only has the Afelskreuz with its fairytale chapel as a highlight, but also offers wonderful panoramic views.

Before you set off...

It happens from time to time that sections of the trail have to be temporarily diverted or closed. Just take a look at www.gesundland-vulkaneifel.de/info/wege-info/.

The trail starts in the center of Sarmersbach. After a short time, the first highlight appears: the "Schloscheid" viewpoint with its magnificent panoramic view. Back downhill again, the fresh Eifel wind offers a nice cool-down and gives you enough energy to walk up to the Afelskreuz.An idyllic, mossy forest path leads on to the "Weiherheide" viewpoint, which was launched in fall 2015 as the "Weiherheide" renaturation project.

Insider tip: After approx. 6.4 km, you will pass the XXL panorama bench built in 2020 - the largest bench in Rhineland-Palatinate. Plan time to linger here.
