The Kierberg lies at an altitude of 450 meters above sea level. From here you can look over the picturesque old town of the climatic health resort Monschau. Monschau was first mentioned in a document as early as 1198. A little later the lords of "Montjoie" built a castle on a rocky promontory above the Rur valley.

The historic Way of the Cross is also signposted as a circular route from the historic market square and the route then has a total length of approx. 1.8 km.
