Schloss Merode

Merode Castle, located in the village of Merode, a district of the municipality of Langerwehe in the district of Düren, is often referred to as the "Pearl of the Eifel". It is an important cultural monument and a popular excursion destination for those interested in history and architecture as well as nature lovers. The history of Merode Castle dates back to the 12th century. First mentioned in a document in 1174, it has been extended and redesigned several times over the centuries. The castle's current appearance, a mixture of medieval and baroque architecture, is mainly due to conversions from the 16th and 17th centuries.

The castle is an outstanding example of the architecture of past centuries. It has long been owned by the Merode noble family and served as a residence and defensive structure. Today it is open to the public for events.
