The oldest and today much altered part of the mill complex is the mill building with the vaulting of the mill stream in the immediate vicinity. The door frame shows the Himmerode rings and the date 1712 in a coat of arms cartouche. Below it, the date 1814 indicates the reconstruction and extension by the residential house with vaulted cellar and the barn added at right angles. In addition, the perimeter wall of the adjacent garden to the south is partially preserved.
The volcanic dome of the Barsberg created in the Tertiary was the highest elevation (600 m) in the vicinity and particularly suitable for the construction of a ring wall system. Their builders deliberately chose the location and were guided by the natural conditions.

The monastery ruins "Mädburg" at KehrigNot far from the confluence of the monastery creek that rises in Kehrig, the Elz flows around a small plateau about 20 m above the valley floor, bounded on the northwest by a rocky steep slope. Here are world-secluded between tall spruce trees and surrounded by thorny scrub, the extensive remains of a small church, which leads to the strange name Mädburg.(Source: website of the local church Kehrig http://www.kehrig-eifel.de/)
