Close to the border between the Eifel and the Ardennes in the municipality of Hellenthal is Reifferscheid Castle, first mentioned in 1106, a medieval hilltop castle typical of the Eifel. The current system of castle ruins, outer bailey and fortified castle settlement reflects the change in this former mansion.
Selected exhibits from the historical collection and the mineral stone collection from the Hillesheim town museum are shown with works by artists from the Volcanic Eifel.
The Weaving Mill Museum Höfen accommodates a piece of historic industrial culture from the North Eifel: Four of the last remaining looms from the time of the small weaving mills in the Altkries Monschau. The waged weavers located in Höfen, Konzen or Roetgen, among other locations, particularly worked for the cloth factories in the Aachen region up to the 70s of the 20th century.
