This "Eifel view" from the keep (220 metres above sea level) of Hengebach Castle offers you a view in a south-westerly to north-westerly direction over the village of Heimbach, with two core areas of the Eifel National Park in view.
The upper forts is the older of the two Manderscheider forts. It was always owned by the Trier until the dissolution of the Electoral State and its destruction by the French (1673). Today, the well-preserved ruin is owned by the town of Manderscheid and is freely accessible.
The steam locomotive of the former Philippsheim-Binsfeld narrow-gauge railroad is still a reminder of the time of the historic narrow-gauge railroad in the Eifel. In front of the former engine shed in Bahnhofsstraße, the historic vehicle is well protected under roof and is freely accessible all year round.
