Ich bin der Biber, der Baumeister am Omerbach
Stolberg
Take a closer look: maybe you can see my tracks!
I'm the beaver and my home is on the Omerbach. I use my powerful teeth to cut down trees to get the tasty bark and build dams. This is how I dam up the water so that my dens are safe.
Beavers used to be almost extinct in Germany, but today they are back. Beaver lodges can be recognized by the piled up branches and the entrance under water. If you are quiet, you might hear a splash in the evening - this is our warning signal when we hit the water with our tail.
Become an animal detective: look for gnawed tree trunks or small dams along the stream. Can you tell whether a tree has been felled by a beaver or by humans?
