Hürtgenwald
In the mid-1980s, excavations on the castle hill, which is visible from afar due to its conical shape and is exactly 400 m high, proved that the former "Reichsburg Berinsteyn" castle was located there in the High Middle Ages between 1090 and 1198.
The "Krawutschketurm", named after the Eifel hiker Franz Krawutschke, offers a breathtaking view of the Eifel mountain ranges. From the edge of the parking lot, the view sweeps across the widening valley of the Rur with the Obermaubach reservoir over the edge of the Eifel to the Jülich Börde and the Cologne Bay.
The forest adventure trail leads past the "Krawutschketurm" tower. Along a small circular route, the forest adventure trail offers visitors of all ages a variety of wooden play equipment and smaller facilities for discovering the local flora and fauna, as well as explanatory boards. You can also combine a visit to the Krawutsche Tower with a hike on thehike along the "Heinrich Böll Trail" [35].
For mountain bikers , the approximately 15 km longMTB circuit E "Krawutschketour" along the castle hill and the tower.
