Burg Ramstein - Eine gotische Ruine im Kylltal

The construction of Ramstein Castle near Kordel, a landmark of the Lower Kyll Valley, dates back to the Electors of Trier. Ramstein Castle (now in ruins) stands alone on a red sandstone cliff south of Kordel.

With its four-story tower, which combined defensive and residential functions, it is typical of the castle architecture of Archbishop Balduin (1285–1354). The surrounding walls, some of which are still preserved to their full height, reveal, among other things, remnants of seating niches, fireplaces, and spiral staircases.

The castle ruins are open to visitors but are privately owned by the Moll family, who operate the hotel-restaurant of the same name, “Burg Ramstein.” Guided Tour of the Medieval Ramstein Castle

The castle steward himself will guide you through the ancient castle ruins, including areas normally closed to the public. Admire this gem in the Southern Eifel and learn about the famous figures from the Middle Ages who once resided within its walls.
