On the ridge called "Castellberg" above Wallendorf, near where the Our flows into the Sauer, the Celtic Treveri built a fortified settlement similar to a town in the 2nd century BC. Today, almost nothing of it is visible above ground.
Wernerseck Castle sits enthroned on a rocky spur high above the nature reserve of the Nettetal. Her residential tower, lined with bay windows, is visible from afar.
