Hike
We will welcome you at the entrance gate to the llama pasture. Our llamas graze directly below the Castle Schönecken on an orchard. After a short greeting round, you will get to know our llamas better. The calm nature of the animals gives you enough time for this. During an entertaining introduction, you will learn interesting facts about the life of llamas and how to handle them. The llamas are very patient and loving in interaction.
In the pasture, we will make our first leading attempts. Then our little hiking adventure in the middle of the Schönecker Switzerland nature reserve begins.
Right at the beginning, we hike down into the valley of the Altburgbach stream. We follow the stream, whose bed winds in countless bends through the forest. We will learn from our knowledgeable guide why there is regularly no water here in summer and what a swallow hole is. After a while, we discover a towering rock hidden among the mighty beech trunks: An ancient refuge fort sits atop it. Here we have a steep ascent ahead: A narrow path winds up the slope to the rock cliff.
In the refuge fort, Celts hid many centuries ago when it became too dangerous outside in the open plains. At this point, we will take a break for a while. Those who wish can explore the rocks. We will surely have ample time to take photos with the llamas as well.
A little later, we reach the plateau "Op Ischt" and enjoy the wide view all the way to the High Venn. At the edge of the plateau, rare, protected plant species such as orchids bloom starting in spring. Depending on the season, we discover flowers, butterflies, edible herbs, or - in winter - tracks of deer, martens & co.
Once we return to the pasture, we must say goodbye to our faithful companions, the llamas.
