Path closed due to hornet's nest

The Höhlen- und Schluchtensteig dream trail must be closed for your own safety due to a hornet's nest. The insects are very aggressive and have already stung several hikers. (As of: 11.08.2025)

Description

The Traumpfad Höhlen- und Schluchtensteig, an approx. 12.5 km long circular hike around Kell.

After starting at the parking lot on the K 57 near Andernach-Kell, the first panoramic view opens up on the Traumpfad Höhlen- und Schluchtensteig towards Pöntertal. Field paths lead through the wide meadows with ever-changing views past gnarled fruit trees to the descent into the idyllic Krayerbach valley. The hike leads steeply uphill to the Schützenhaus, shortly after which it is worth taking a detour to the "Schweppenburgblick" viewpoint.
The trail passes under a viaduct and finally leads through the large accessible trass caves. The trass was formed when the Laacher See volcano erupted around 13,000 years ago and was used to build houses. The caves were left behind.
Then we head into the Wolfsschlucht gorge. The overgrown rocks here look like a small jungle, you can see bubbling springs in the stream bed and there is even a waterfall. A little further on, you come to the Roman spring from which water containing CO2 and a slight smell of sulphur gushes out.

The hiking trail turns into a quiet side valley and then along an ascending forest path to a high plateau, which reveals the impressive "Siebengebirgsblick" view back to the starting point.

Tip: The trail is well frequented. For those who appreciate peace and quiet, we recommend the hike during the week.
