This tour is designed for anyone who loves road cycling—and is ready to take on a real challenge. Spanning just under 120 kilometers and with nearly 1,900 meters of elevation gain, a varied route awaits you, featuring smooth, fast-riding sections and impressive scenic views that only the Vulkaneifel can offer.
The tour begins at a leisurely pace along the Maare-Mosel Bike Trail, including a ride through the “Großes Schlitzohr” tunnel. From there, the route takes you along small roads and quiet paths through typical Eifel villages like Steiningen, Wollmerath, and Strotzbüsch—always with an eye toward the next climb and the next view. As you pass natural wonders like the Strohner lava bomb and the Ernstberg, short but challenging climbs will test you.
Must-see highlights line the route: Buchholz Monastery with its XXL panoramic bench, the imposing Niederburg Manderscheid, and the picturesque Hilgerath Church near Bongard. If you’d like, you can also make a detour along the way to the Windsborn Crater Lake—the only true crater lake north of the Alps.
