Discover the idyllic landscape of the Salm Valley on the HeimatSpur Mühlenpfad, a family-friendly and easy circular hike with cultural highlights.
Before you set off...
It happens from time to time that sections of the trail have to be temporarily diverted or closed. Just take a look at www.gesundland-vulkaneifel.de/info/wege-info/.
The starting and finishing point of the HeimatSpur Mühlenpfad is Molitors Mühle in the idyllic Salmtal valley. Right from the start, the calmly flowing Salm accompanies the trail and characterizes the landscape of this circular hike with its extensive floodplain landscapes.
The path initially leads close to the river through open meadows and near-natural sections of riverbank to Himmerod Abbey. The former Cistercian abbey is nestled in the wooded surroundings and exudes a special tranquillity. The extensive monastery grounds invite you to take a short break before the trail continues towards Eisenschmitt after crossing the Salm.
Today, the small Eifel village presents itself as a tranquil place in the midst of a varied low mountain range landscape. Surrounded by forests, meadows and the river valley, the surroundings convey an original and natural atmosphere. Along the route, there are always charming views of the floodplain landscape and the gently incised Salm valley.
The Mühlenpfad combines tranquil nature experiences with cultural waypoints and is ideal for anyone looking for a peaceful and scenic circular walk in the Salm valley.
