Description

Dreamy ponds, old mills and impressive maars are among the highlights of this tour!

Before you set off...

It happens from time to time that sections of the trail have to be temporarily diverted or closed. Just take a look at www.gesundland-vulkaneifel.de/info/wege-info/.

A route that has it all. The reward is pure variety in our beautiful natural surroundings: along meadows, fields, forests and stream valleys, you reach heights that offer a wonderful panoramic view over the Vulkaneifel.

The circular tour starts directly at the Museum Vulkanhaus Strohn. The hike first leads to the Strohner Märchen, a dry maar located south of the famous Gillenfelder Pulvermaar. It then continues along natural paths to the Trautzberger Maar, the smallest volcanic lake in the Eifel. The trail then continues through the wild and romantic Alfbachtal valley to the small hamlet of Sprink and on to the Mückeln monastery pond. Past Mückeln, after a forest passage, the Holzmaar is right on the edge of the path! It's worth taking a few great photos here! From there, it's back to the starting point.

Insider tip: It's worth taking a look at the 120-tonne lava bomb, which is just a 5-minute walk from the Strohn volcano house!
