Stolberg
1930 to 2016
The water tower in Mausbach went into operation in 1930 and was a central component of the water supply until 2016. It supplied the area Donnerberg of the city of Stolberg and kept the water pressure in the pipes constant.
The tower long overshadowed the Diepenlinchener Forest and was visible from afar. This led to it becoming a landmark of Mausbach and a popular hiking destination for the residents of Mausbach. Over the years, the tower was renovated and enlarged several times.
The Diepenlinchener Forest, which extends from Diepenlinchen to the areas of Bernardshammer and Binsfeldhammer, was once an important route for commuters who traveled to Stolberg for work in the industry every day – a use that continued well into the post-war period.
Today, the small forest area serves as a local recreation area and offers walkers and hikers a green retreat.
