The villa rustica was built in the 1st century AD and, according to coin finds, was inhabited until the middle of the 4th century. On-site information boards vividly tell the historical background, as the area is now completely overgrown. Many of the artifacts, such as mosaics and clay jugs, are now on display in the Roman Villa at Silberberg in Ahrweiler.

    The building of the former synagogue (1910) was restored from 1976 and converted into a cultural and conference centre. In 1985, the town of Wittlich opened an exhibition entitled "Images of German-Jewish History", which was to be the beginning of an intensive examination of the fate of Jewish fellow men.

    The Werthelstein is an impressive quartzite rock, partly overgrown with fern. Starting at the end of the road "Zum Werthelstein" in Bergweiler, you can reach the rock via well signposted hiking trails.

    Neuerburg Castle is the largest surviving castle complex in the Bitburg-Prüm district. The inner courtyard and the castle chapel (former knights' hall) can be visited.

    Kohlendioxidquelle im Gelenberger Wald

    Many years ago it was believed that the release of carbon dioxide was a sign of extinct volcanism. But this is not the case: the molten rock inside the earth (magma) contains, in addition to mineral components, gases such as carbon dioxide, water vapor, sulfur dioxide, fluorine and chlorine. Depending on how warm it is and how much pressure is created, they escape through cracks in the earth's crust. The source of carbon dioxide in the Gelenberg Forest is a Mofette.

    Dietzenley Vulkan & Keltenburg

    About 2500 years ago there was a Celtic urbanisation with pastures on the Dietzenley. The Celtic urbanisation was protected by ring walls of up to 9 meters high and 4 meters wide against attacks.During the volcanic activity around 600.000 years ago, the area around the Dietzenley was covered with volcanic rocks. These rocks are used by the Celtics to build the ring walls.
