Historischer Ortskern Aremberg

High above the Eifel village of Mürlenbach the imposing scenery of the Bertradaburg Castle emerges.

The Cistercian monastery was founded in 1185 to honour the Archbishop of Canterbury.

The Kalterherberg parish church "St. Lambertus" is commonly known as the "Eifel Cathedral" due to its striking twin towers. It was built between 1897 and 1901 by Father Arnoldy.

The parish was first mentioned in 1202 with its Church of St. John the Baptist.

Traces of settlement at the prehistoric Kakushöhle between Eiserfey and Weyer date back to 80,000 BC.                                                                  Hunter-gatherer groups of the Neanderthals left behind numerous stone implements of the Middle Palaeolithic epochs and animal bones.
