The Sterenbachsee is picturesquely situated between Wittlich and Wengerohr and, surrounded by trees, is a popular local recreation area for walks or as a running track for guests and citizens. The reservoir is 400 metres long and a maximum of 160 metres wide. It is crossed from north to south by the Sterenbach stream, whose outflow is first channelled through pipes under the motorway and later flows into the Lieser. Swimming in the lake is prohibited. Fishing is permitted. Fishing licences are available from the tourist information office in Wittlich on presentation of a federal fishing licence.

Modern lift facilities and mechanically prepared pistes complete the offer. If there is enough snow, the ski tows are open on weekdays from 1 to 5 p.m. and at the weekends from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.Because in our low mountain ranges there is never an absolute guarantee that there will be snow, the municipality of Kaltenborn offers a snow telephone service. The skiing trail comprises several interconnected tracks of 3, 5 and 7 km length.A cross-country school with DSV-certified instructors gives lessons at the weekends (by arrangement only, tel.: +49(0)2691/2519).There are fun and child-friendly toboggan runs below mountain hotel Hohe Acht.Ski and winter hikes through the snow-covered woods of the Eifel region can be enjoyed by those looking to spend a more quiet and relaxed weekend. A special highlight is the walk to the Emperor William tower on the Hohen Acht with its magnificent views.Parking is available in Jammelshofen for skiers, tobogannists and cross-country skiers.
