Eifel-Blick "Waldkapelle"

This Eifel view on the Mausauel, above the Obermaubach reservoir, is located at an altitude of 250 m above sea level and offers you a view in a northerly (westerly) direction beyond the reservoir to the last hills of the northern Eifel before the transition to the Jülich-Zülpicher Börde.

The forest chapel was built by members of the "Obermaubach Working Group" between December 1994 and May 1996.

You can experience the Eifel view "Waldkapelle" on a hike along the rock passage or by mountain bike on MTB route C, Seeblick.


How to get there:
From Düren and the Cologne area via the L 249 to Kreuzau, then follow the signs to Obermaubach via the K 39 or 30. From Heimbach via the L 249 to Kreuzau, then follow the signs to Obermaubach via the K 39 or 30. From the Bonn area via the B 56 to Soller, after the village change to the K 28 in the direction of Kreuzau, then follow the signs to Obermaubach via the K 39 or 30. From the Aachener and Monschauer Land region, take the B 399 to Gey, then change to the K 31 towards Untermaubach. In Untermaubach, follow the K 30 to Obermaubach. From Heimbach via the L 249 to Kreuzau, then follow the signs to Obermaubach via the K 39 or 30

Please use the parking spaces at the entrance to Obermaubach or at the dam wall. From there, follow the signs to "Eifel-Blick" for approx. 3.25 km.

    Lavakeller – Einmalige Landschaft in der Tiefe

    There are many steps leading deep down below the town of Mendig: Here in the lava cellars, in the middle of the cooled volcanic rock, it is consistently cold even in the hottest summers, there is a mysterious dim light, there is the smell of moisture. Up to 28 Mendig breweries used the 32-metre-high, cathedral-like halls in the basalt rock to store fresh beer. Mighty pillars, left standing during centuries of basalt and lava mining, support the gigantic cellars. A guided tour through the cellars is an unforgettable aha experience. The Vulkan Brewery in Mendig, which is located above the cellars, still uses this unique cold storage facility today. The Lava Dome as a multimedia museum shows many more exciting facets of volcanism.

    Schrumpftal

    The 4.5-kilometer Road follows the Schrumpfbach stream, which flows from Münstermaifeld-Metternich through a valley rich in forests and meadows down to hatzenport at the Moselle. Fifteen mills are on the wayside - some in a deep sleep, others are successful examples of how ancient walls can be beautifully renovated, for example to accommodate comfortable holiday apartments.

    LVR-Industriemuseum / Tuchfabrik Müller

    It is a journey back in time to the world of the cloth industry. In 1961, factory owner Kurt Müller closed the doors of his cloth factory in the Eifel, hoping to reopen it soon. This did not come true, but today visitors can take a unique tour of a factory where robust woollen fabrics and loden cloth were produced for many years. They are immersed in the world of dyeing and weaving and experience how some of the machines are brought back to life during a guided tour and how people used to work here.
