Eifel-Blick "Burg Hengebach"

Heimbach

Open today

This "Eifel view" from the keep (220 meters above sea level) of Hengebach Castle offers you a view in a south to north-westerly direction over the village of Heimbach, with two core areas of the Eifel National Park in the field of vision.

Hengebach Castle, whose origins date back to the 11th century, rises majestically above the roofs of the town on a greywacke rock about 180 m long and up to 40 m wide. As a hilltop castle, it was virtually impregnable until the invention of gunpowder. Large parts of the castle and the town were destroyed in the devastating town fire of 1687. The castle lost its importance and fell into disrepair. In 1979, the castle, which has since been restored in several sections, finally became the property of the town of Heimbach.

You can combine the Eifel view with a hike on the monastery circuit or with an approx. 39 km long, challenging MTB circuit J.

You can reach Heimbach from Düren via the L 249, from the Aachener and Monschauer Land via the L 249, from Schleiden-Gemünd via the L 249 and from the Cologne-Bonn area via the B 265 and L 218.

Park in one of the signposted parking lots and follow the signs to the castle and the Eifel-Blick. There is a parking lot in the immediate vicinity of the Eifel-Blick, which is only about 50 meters from the viewpoint.
