The Genovevaburg castle is one of the landmarks of the town of Mayen and can be seen from far and wide on a crest of rock above the market square. The late Gothic castle has been besieged, destroyed and rebuilt several times during its eventful history.

The short 3.7 km circular route through Berg-Thuir shows all the special features of the village.

The monastery ruins "Mädburg" at KehrigNot far from the confluence of the monastery creek that rises in Kehrig, the Elz flows around a small plateau about 20 m above the valley floor, bounded on the northwest by a rocky steep slope.
