Duo Affair of the Heart

Affaire de couer is the duo of Anne Kaftan (alto and soprano saxophone, bass clarinet) and Georges Urwald (piano). Their stylistically open music project consciously eludes fixed compositional guidelines and moves freely between classical, folklore, modern music, and jazzy tones. The music emerges from the moment: Inspired by 'atmosphere, space, and audience, the two musicians spontaneously develop their ideas and create intense, touching concert experiences, full of expression and emotion - a true matter of the heart.

Anne Kaftan studied jazz saxophone in Halle and Cologne with Charlie Mariano. She participated in various ensembles, including the projects of the trios Kalima and Puente. With the group Bobo, she was awarded the World Music Prize "Ruth" in 2008, and in 2009, the trio Kalima received the "Prix du public" at the Jazz Festival Avignon.

Georges Urwald studied school music with a focus on church organ and jazz piano in Cologne. He works as a musician, composer, arranger, and educator, regularly publishes songbooks and teaching materials, and directs the Kleinkunstbühne Stued Theater in Grevenmacher (Luxembourg).
