Guided tours to the volcanic lakes of the Eifel Today's Maar: Windsborn crater lake Windsborn

Windsborn is the only permanently water-filled crater lake north of the Alps. Unlike the maars, it is not a hollow form blasted into the original terrain, but the eruption crater of a volcanic mountain. This Windsborn cinder cone belongs to the Mosenberg series volcanic group. The cinders that made up the mountain are clearly visible around the lake. With its siltation zone, the lake is a special habitat for rare plants and insects. In suitable weather/season, many dragonflies and butterflies can be observed.
