The Meerfelder Maar was created about 80,000 years ago by a huge steam explosion. The approx. 25 ha large lake is 18 meters deep. Large shrubs of the protected white water lily line the shore. Great crested grebes have one of their rare refuges here.

After walking to the tour guide's favorite spot, the hike leads up to Landesblick (516m). With a fantastic view of the Mosenberg group it goes over towards Deudesfeld with a view of the tephra ejection of the Meerfelder Maar. After many views over the volcanic soap landscape, the tour leads back down to Meerfeld.
