Guided tours to the volcanic lakes of the Eifel - Today's Maar: Immerather Maar


The Immerather Maar is one of the lesser-known maars and lies a little hidden away from the village. As with other maars, the lake was drained (in 1750) by deepening the small stream in order to use the fertile maar soil for agriculture. During the First World War, the drainage was no longer kept open, so that the lake filled up with water again.
